Call for Volunteer Judges: ALSA 2026 National Conference

ALSA National Conference

Each year, ALSA convenes a National Conference focused on fostering legal excellence, professional development, and social awareness among the next generation of legal professionals. The 2026 conference is being held at Adelaide University from 10 July to 15 July 2026. As part of the Conference, we host a number of competitions including the:

  • Championship Moot
  • International Humanitarian Law Moot
  • Negotiation Competition
  • Client Interview Competition
  • Witness Examination Competition
  • Paper Presentation

The winners of each competition go on to represent Australia at international competitions.

To this end, we are seeking assistance from experienced practitioners to judge these competitions.

Structure of the Competition

Our rounds run from Saturday 11 July to Tuesday 14 July.

There will be three preliminary rounds held from Saturday to Monday, followed by the quarter and semi-finals on Tuesday.

The problem questions and relevant materials (currently being drafted) will be provided to judges in May.

There will be three timeslots each day for each competition: the first from 9.00 am to 11.00 am, the second from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm, and the final from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm.

Each round goes for 1 - 2 hours and will take place at Adelaide University. Please let us know if you are interested and available to assist in judging.

Please note that you would not need to be available for the whole conference - your assistance in even one round would be greatly appreciated!

Optional Briefing Session

If this is your first time judging, or if you would like some guidance, we will also be hosting several optional online briefing sessions in June to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have as well as discuss the problem questions.

CPD Eligibility

While practitioners are required to self-evaluate and report on their CPD requirements, we believe judging during our conference may qualify as preparing and/or presenting an educational activity for CPD purposes. However, it is of course up to each practitioner to determine their own CPD needs and how these can best be met.
