ALSA Awards

Each year, ALSA recognises the work that LSA/LSS's have done over the last year. These awards are presented at the Closing Gala of ALSA Conference. This year, the Closing Gala will be held on 10 July 2019 at Crown Palladium, Melbourne.

The following awards are open for nominations:

  • Best Careers Publication

  • Best Equity Publication or Event

  • Best Health & Wellbeing initiative

  • Best Academic Contribution

  • Greatest Community Contribution

  • Best Video or online activity

  • Best First Year Initiative

  • Innovation Award

Please note: each LSS/A can nominate only once for each category.

The awards will be judged by ALSA Executive.

 Application Process

  1. Applications will be accepted through the following link

  2. What award you are nominating for?;

  3. Attach a copy of any relevant material where indicated;

  4. Answers to the criteria listed below;

  5. Contact details for LSS and Pres or VP.

Applications must be submitted by midnight, 29 May 2019.


Criteria

General Criteria

  • Maximum one entry per LSS/LSA per category;

  • There must be a minimum of 2 applications received for the award to be considered;

  • Copies of any guides/materials must be submitted with the original nomination to be considered; (files must be in .pdf, for videos: hyperlink to an YouTube video) as stated in the application form;

  • In your application, please attach a pdf that addresses the criteria outlined in the below categories, including any links to your website or events.

  • All nominations must specifically answer the relevant criteria for the award;

  • All entries will be judged by the Executive, whose decision is final;

  • Awards will be presented at the ALSA Conference Closing Gala in Melbourne;

  • Applications must be submitted by midnight, 29 May 2019.

Best Careers PublicatioN

To be awarded the Best Career Publication of 2019, ALSA is looking for a publication that is:

  • Well-structured, easy to follow and has a clear directories/contents page;

    • Content covers a range of employers and careers; Content is well balanced and engaging.

    • There is use of diagrams, pictures, infographics which are balanced alongside text.

    • Publication is original, the LSS/A has curated a unique and innovative career guide.

Best Equity Publication or Event

To be awarded the Best Equity Publication or Event of 2019, ALSA is looking for a publication or event that demonstrates the following:

  • Publication:

    • Well-structured, easy to follow and has clear directories/contents page;

    • Breadth of content;

    • Visually appealing;

    • Advertisements used are engaging;

    • Originality of publication content.

  • Event:

    • Originality of event;

    • Attendance of the event;

    • Availability of equity tickets or payment plans;

    • Online presence and advertising of event;

    • The event had a specific focus or theme;

    • Guest speakers who attended and relevance to students.

  • If you are entering your publication, please attach a pdf in your application. If you are entering an event, please attach a pdf addressing the criteria above, including a link to Facebook/Website event.


Best Online Activity

To be awarded the Best Online Activity of 2019, ALSA is looking for online activity that demonstrates:

  • Accessibility of activity (website/page/app), including navigation and ability to share;

  • Visually appealing and accessible;

  • Information is current and up to date (where appropriate);

  • Activity is well integrated with social media (e.g. external websites, blogs…);

  • Original and innovative.

Greatest Community Contribution

To be awarded the Great Community Contribution for 2019, ALSA is looking for a LSS/A’s community initiative that demonstrates:

  • Law Student Community Contribution:

    • Opportunity created by LSS/A;

    • Is the contribution a non-legal initiatives?

    • Innovative and unique approach to contribution;

    • If there was an event, attendance of the event; Positivity of feedback received from students;

    • Success and longevity of initiative;

    • How many students took part?

  • Wider Community Contribution:

    • Nature of contribution;

    • Number of people helped in the wider community;

    • Innovative and unique approach to contribution;

    • If there was an event, attendance of the event;

    • Positivity of feedback received;

    • Success and longevity of initiative.

Best Video

To be awarded the Best Video of 2019, ALSA is looking for a video that demonstrates:

  • High level of technical production including soundtrack, editing, etc;

  • Did it attract and engage new audiences?;

  • What was it for? A specific initiative or event?;

  • Well targeted to key audience;

  • Originality;

Best First Year Initiative

To be awarded the Best First Year Initiative of 2019, ALSA is looking for an initiative that demonstrates:

  • Structure of program – including who is involved, LSS/LSA, Faculty, others;

  • Initiative was engaging to new students;.

  • Success of initiative;

  • If there an event, attendance at event;

  • Innovative and unique approach to the initiative.

Best Health & Wellbeing Initiative:

To be awarded the Best Health & Wellbeing Initiative of 2019, ALSA is looking for an initiative that demonstrates:

  • Engaged students and promoted awareness of the importance of health and wellbeing;

  • Well promoted to students;

  • Innovative and unique approach to the initiative.


Best Academic Contribution

To be awarded the Best Academic Contribution of 2019, ALSA is looking for a contribution that demonstrates:

  • Collaboration with Faculty and other professional bodies;

  • Innovative and unique approach to initiative;

  • If there was an event, attendance at event;

  • Feedback received from students and faculty;

  • Engagement;

  • Success and longevity of initiative.

Innovation Award

To be awarded the Innovation Award of 2019, ALSA is looking for an idea/event/activity that demonstrates:

  • Innovative idea that engaged students;

  • Originality of initiative;

  • Long-term effect on LSS/A and law students.
